"Being healthy... is soooo not easy..." I mumbled under my breath. My nutritionist looked at me with a smile on her lips and hope in her eyes. I knew that she wanted to help me, but was I willing to give up the "biggie size" to lose a few pounds? Maybe. But today did not look like the right day. "Your weight right now is putting you at a high risk for diabetes, and heart problems. At thirteen years old, these are problems you don't want," she continued on. That was the last thing I was expecting to hear. Shoot, I thought it was just "baby weight." I knew that things had gotten more serious, and I needed a change.
As she began to describe the transitions that I would have to make, at the top of her list was "snacking." She looked me in the eyes and asked "So when you come home from school do you reach for the quickest thing you can find?" I looked up, smiled sweetly and said "Yes, and the saltiest, and the sweetest, and the tastiest." I don't think that she was even expecting that answer because she burst with laughter. "Well, lets try a different approach," she stated once she got her giggles out. "I want you to try eating things with a very high nutritious value, rather than space fillers." So instead of eating my usual cheetos and glazed sweet, she suggested peanuts, fruits, veggies, and an assortment of other snacks.
When I began to change my diet I realized that the snacks that she suggested required a great deal of effort. I had to wash fruits and veggies, and cook things that were better for me. The instant food that I was indulging in prior to my lifestyle change was not fulfilling. Of course it would work for the moment, and then I'd be hungry again in a hour. But, when I took the time to really pay attention to what I was putting in my body, everything just felt better (and looked better, lol).
The blessings that God grants us with are very similar to our lifestyle habits. If God were to just "POOF" like a genie and just give us exactly what we needed instantaneously, what would we really learn? When we wait as we are in preparation, God's plan is ful-"filled." Let the blessings come slowly, because in the end you'll come out a much healthier, all-around person. The champion is always in training! Love you guys! God bless!
